Thangka
About me My name is Heinz Hoes. Born 1950 in Friesland, Germany. From 1974 - 1979, I attended the Academy of Art (Hochschule der Kuenste) in Berlin for contemporary painting.
Through my interest in Tibetan Buddhism I came to live at the Tibetan Monastery and Tibetan Centre of Kagyu Samye Ling in Eskdalemuir in the Borders Region of Scotland, UK, in 1980. There I learnt the art of Thangka painting in the Karma Gadri style from the renowned Master Artist, Sherab Palden Beru. I studied under him and assisted him for 20 years with his many very intricate fine Tibetan Thangka paintings, larger formats and smaller sizes with miniature features.
I have been given permission to accept commissions for Thangka already in 1989 by the Founder of Kagyu Samye Ling, Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche and my teacher, the Venerable Sherab Palden Beru. Since I have done various paintings as commissions on my own as well.
My commitment at Kagyu Samye Ling came to a completion in 2001 and I settled at Findhorn, Morayshire in Northern Scotland.
